What You'll Need

To complete this project, you will need the following resources:

1. How to Set Up Photoshop for an Instagram Post Slideshow

Step 1

If you want a nine-panel infographic on Instagram, the size is 9720 x 1080 pixels.

However, if you want fewer panels, then you calculate the width by taking the number of panels you want and multiplying by 1,080. For example, a three-panel infographic Instagram post would be 3 x 1,080 = 3,240 pixels

The height of an infographic for Instagram is always 1080 pixels.

Step 2

Define the individual panels using Guides.

Go to View > New Guide Layout  and Check Columns only. Next, set the Number to the amount of Instagram slideshow panels. Today we will be creating nine panels, setting it to Number 9.

Uncheck all other options such as Rows and Margin.

Step 3

Create a Color Fill layer set to a soft yellow #f4f5e0 color.

2. How to Create Type and Titles for Infographics on Instagram

Step 1

When thinking about how to make a slideshow on Instagram, it's very important to keep the flow of the panels in mind.

In a bold sans serif font like Cheddar Gothic, type out the main text for your first panel. Think of this text like a title and subtitle of a book. Aim for a title that encourages the viewer to swipe right.

I chose "Recycling is fine Reusing is better Reducing is best!" And "Here’s Why"

Place all of your information on the panel, using your Instagram infographic's main font color for now, #3c3e42 in this case. We'll be adding accent colors later.

place first panel text place first panel text place first panel text

Step 2

Create a new Horizontal Guide, placing it above the title text. We'll be using this guide to ensure all the text we add later is aligned at the top.

add top guide add top guide add top guide

Step 3

From here on, let's create two panels at a time, keeping the guides on so we know when one panel is ending and a new panel is starting.

The second panel should present a problem that the future information will help with. In this case, emphasize how much trash is generated in the USA over the course of a year.

To make things more dynamic, we're going to split the information over two panels. Place the text boxes opposite each other, leaving space for a timeline infographic. Placing an arrow will encourage the viewer to keep going through the panels.

place title text in all 9 panels place title text in all 9 panels place title text in all 9 panels

Step 4

Keep your information simple, we want to aim for small amounts of large text.

Keep the design elements consistent, using the same colors, fonts, and eventually graphics, but changing the text formatting. This will help keep the viewer's attention.

use different alignments use different alignments use different alignments

Step 5

Keep negative space open for things like graphics and textures. The text should come first, and the decorative elements second.

However, if there is something important like an infographic, then place the text, and adjust where you place the infographic.

Step 6

Go through and check all of your margins and spacing!

3. How to Stylize Text for Infographics on Instagram

Step 1

Now, let's use color to bring emphasis to our message, highlighting key words. This is also where we will establish our color scheme.

My color scheme is gray blue (#3c3e42), lime green (#98c758), pastel purple (#b49dbc) and a purple gray (#979193) color.

These colors are established in the title panel.

Step 2

Next, you want to establish a continuity, i.e. a pattern for the colors. In the panels below, I changed all the negative statistics to the pastel purple color.

highlight key words highlight key words highlight key words

Step 3

Next, I went back and changed all of the positive information to lime green. Highlight only keywords that hold a lot of impact.

4. How to Use Instagram Infographic Templates

Step 1

Finally, we can add in our infographics, statistics, and accompanying information.

Stretched across both panels 2 and 3, let's place the timeline infographic from the Infographic Elements V1 pack.

Having an element stretch from one panel to the next also encourages viewers to continue reading.

Step 2

Now, let's delete all of the excess elements that we don't need.

remove layers you don't need remove layers you don't need remove layers you don't need

Step 3

With the infographic cleaned up, we can add our own relevant information.

Select the Type tool and double-click on the yearly dates to change them to 2013 through 2020. We also want to change the font to Cheddar Gothic so that it matches the rest of our type.

change information change information change information

Step 4

Next, let's replace the current color scheme on the infographic with our own.

Select the Move tool and Check Auto-Select. This makes it so you can directly select the layer just by selecting it on the canvas.

Go through and change the color to both the solid shapes and fonts. Keep the order of the colors consistent, i.e. changing all orange shapes to purple and all blue shapes to green.

change colors to match color scheme change colors to match color scheme change colors to match color scheme

Step 5

Drag and drop the Core Concept infographic onto the eighth panel. Repeat the same steps of changing the information, font, and color

Step 6

Finally, with your infographics in place, you can add any deeper information.

This information will be in smaller, but still legible, text. Panel 8 contains several facts about how recycling things you aren't supposed to hurts more than it helps.

You want to form the text around the infographic, making sure both the words and graphic remain easy to read.

5. How to Use Graphics to Make an Effective Infographic Instagram Post

Step 1

Finish off by placing in your graphics! Graphics can be placed anywhere where there is excess empty space. I used graphics from the Zero Waste and Pollution icons and vector packs.

place graphics place graphics place graphics

Step 2

You can also place graphics between panels to help connect one panel to another. Splitting the Glass waste recycling illustration between panels helps tie the two together, which is another technique to keep your viewers visually interested in your infographic.

place graphics between panels place graphics between panels place graphics between panels

Step 3

Let's finish up by dragging and dropping the Earth Conservation Flat Illustration onto the canvas, shrinking it down and placing it at the bottom of the first panel, spilling over into the second.

Step 4

Set the Layer Mode to Linear Burn to instantly bring some of the tan colors of the background into the image.

set layer mode to linear burn set layer mode to linear burn set layer mode to linear burn

Step 5

Finally, copy and paste and flip the same earth image into the very last panel to bring everything together.

place graphic on last panel place graphic on last panel place graphic on last panel

Step 6

Once you are done, you can export each panel by using the Crop tool and Guides!

Go down the line and one by one Crop each panel to be 1080 x 1080 pixels, saving as a JPG, naming it the panel number (so you know which order to upload them to Instagram in), and then repeating the process on the next panel.

That's It!

That's all there is to creating an infographic for Instagram! Instagram post slideshows are an amazing way to boost audience interaction, provide helpful content, and entertain all at the same time. You can also repurpose these panels to create infographic Instagram stories! Just swap out the colors and text and reuse it to make future Instagram infographic templates.
