This will be my first worthwhile freelance job as opposed to sites I’ve built for friends and family for basically free. I was recommended by a family member to this person and they want me to start building a site for them. I had a brief conversation/discovery with them and I estimate it’ll take me a total of 20-30 hours to build the site. He’s already agreed to pay me $2500 for 20 hours of work, but I want to make sure that I handle this as professionally as I can, set expectations for both of us, and not get burned in the end.
I have a few questions on how I should go about this. No single person has to answer all the questions, but please feel free to share how you go about this.
What do you do if you go over the estimated hours, and how do you have that conversation with your clients before hand? Basically, how would I write this in my proposal/contract?
So for 20 hours of work for $2500, that is $125/hr. Should I charge a flat rate, or charge hourly, incase I do end up going over?
To prevent endless revisions, and a complete rebuild based on a clients changes, do you limit the amount of major revisions in your contract?
This job may include editing numerous photos in Photoshop, which would eat away at the estimated time. Does anyone charge for development and photo editing separately?
Also, if anyone is comfortable with sharing a contract of their own, I would be very grateful.
Thank you everyone for any help!
