What You'll Need to Make This Harvest Festival Flyer Template
1. How to Create a Textured Fall Festival Flyer Background in InDesign
Step 1
We're going to start with a blank fall flyer background. Create a new document in InDesign (File > New > Document). Set the dimensions of the fall festival flyer template: 8.5 in x 11 in, 0.5 Margins, and 0.125 in Bleed.
Step 2
Go to the Swatches panel and create a new CMYK swatch by selecting the hamburger icon at the top of the panel, and then select New Color Swatch. Change the CMYK numbers to C35 M93 Y93 K54.
Step 3
Select the Rectangle Tool (M) and cover the entire background with this burgundy swatch that we just created. Open Adobe Illustrator and open the Shapes-19.ai file from the badge shapes zip folder in Illustrator. Copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) this shape into InDesign and place this at the bottom of the fall social flyer. Change the color of this shape to C47 M0 Y83 K34.
Step 4
Add a Drop Shadow to the green bush by going to Object > Effects > Drop Shadow.
Step 5
Add an Inner Glow to the green bush.
Step 6
Create a new document (File > New) in Illustrator that's the same size as our InDesign document.
Step 7
Open the vintage book textures AI file in Illustrator and drag the second texture in the second row into our newly created document. Save this file as Texture.ai.
Step 8
File > Place this file into our InDesign fall-themed flyer template. Open the Effects panel (Object > Effects > Transparency) and change the Opacity to 20% and the Mode to Multiply.
2. How to Design a Fall Harvest Festival Flyer Template
Step 1
Open the fall pattern EPS file in Illustrator. Convert this file to CMYK by going to File > Document Color Mode > CMYK Color. Copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) the orange leaves into the document and arrange them like the image below. Select all three of the leaves and move them behind the texture layer by pressing Command-[ on your keyboard.
Step 2
Copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) the pumpkin from the fall pattern into our fall carnival flyer template. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) and make a circle that's 2.9 in in diameter. Select the Type on a Path Tool (Shift-T) and type out the "JOIN US FOR" text using RNS Miles Black and 14 pt font using the Paper swatch on the circle path.
Step 3
Type the word "Fall" using the Himalaya font, 111 pt, and create a new color swatch C0 M6 Y22 K0. Highlight the last letter in the word "Fall" using the Type Tool (T). A glyphs bar should appear. Select the third glyph from the options. Change the Rotation Angle to 17° and the Shear X Angle to 5° in the top toolbar.
Step 4
Type the word "Fest" using the same font and color swatch we used for "Fall". Change the Rotation Angle and Shear X Angle to 5°.
Step 5
Select the Fall and Fest text layers and apply a Drop Shadow (Object > Effects > Drop Shadow). Use these settings:
- Mode: Multiply | C2 M88 Y100 K0
- Opacity: 75%
- Distance: 0.1587 in
- Angle: 135
- X and Y Offset: 0.1122 in
- Size: 0 in
- Spread and Noise: 0%
Step 6
Open the Falling Season ALL.ai file from the falling season vector pack in Illustrator and change the color mode to CMYK (File > Document Color Mode > CMYK Color). Copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) some of the elements like the acorn and leaves from the file into our InDesign document.
Step 7
Add a Drop Shadow (Object > Effects > Drop Shadow) to the acorn. Use these settings:
- Mode: Multiply | Black paper swatch
- Opacity: 43%
- Distance: 0.0832 in
- Angle: 135
- X and Y Offset: 0.0588 in
- Size: 0.0924 in
- Spread and Noise: 0%
Step 8
Create two text boxes with the Type Tool (T) and type the date and event information on the flyer using the settings below:
- Date and Time: RNS Miles Black, 14 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0
- Event attractions: RNS Miles Bold 16 pt, RNS Miles Black 20 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0, C0 M68 Y96 K0
Step 9
On the right side of our festival flyer, add the location and ticket information using these settings:
- The Acorn Field & Event Tickets: RNS Miles Bold, 22 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0, Himalaya, 46 pt, C0 M68 Y96 K0
- Address and Ticket prices: RNS Miles Bold, 13 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0
Step 10
Use the Pen Tool (P) and make a border around the event details using a 4 pt stroke and the color C0 M68 Y96 K0 from the Swatches panel. Change the Stroke Type to Thick - Thick.
Step 11
Type the "Everyone is Welcome" text at the bottom of the fall carnival flyer template using these settings:
- Everyone: RNS Miles Black 27 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0, Rotation Angle 5°, Shear X Angle 5°
- Is: Himalaya 28 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0, Rotation Angle 5°, Shear X Angle 5°
- Welcome: Himalaya 117 pt, C0 M6 Y22 K0, Rotation Angle 5°, Shear X Angle 5°
Highlight the "W" in "Welcome" with the Type Tool (T) and select the second glyph in the glyph options bar.
Step 12
Copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) more fall vectors from the Illustrator files. Use the Ellipse Tool (L) and make an orange circle. Place the circle underneath the word "is". Add the website address underneath the welcome text using RNS Bold 14 pt and C0 M6 Y22 K0 swatch.
