Social media can be just a place to hangout, or a career. I personally believe the idea and purpose of most social media's are great! However, they don't turn out that well.
A data scientist who used to work at Facebook exploited that fakebook's algorithm features posts that will make you angry. Basically, disliking a post could make it rank higher!
However, even if that's how social media works, I will still use them, not that I have a choice. Social media is one of the only ways humans communicate to each other, as everyone is glued to their devices now a days.
This is where developers come in, I wrote this whole article for a purpose. I am sure Facebook(Meta) has a few good employees, not that they will last long, but still, we as developers have the responsibility to maintain this world. (The digital side)
Now that everyone is using technologies, we are tempted to make useless websites and tools just for the money. This cycle needs to stop, the more people make bad websites, the more non-profit/open source tools die.
Okay, let's get back to social media, let's say I post on twitter that cups are evil, I'll probably get zero views. You know why, because people just think it's stupid. However, if I post that Facebook is evil, I'll probably get way more attention, unless of course I post that on Facebook.
I hope you get my point, the core responsibility you accept as a programmer is to end the evil cycle. The more bad tools, the more we are forced to make bad tools to survive.
P.S: This is the core reason I started Free Technology Help INC.
