How to Make a Lyric Video in DaVinci Resolve (Step by Step)

The best way to make a DaVinci Resolve lyric video is to use a template. Sure, you can make a lyric video from scratch. But why spend forever building out a design from the beginning? Turn to a premium DaVinci Resolve lyric template, and the hard work is all done for you.

1. Launch a Template in a Project

The first step in making a DaVinci Resolve lyric video is to launch your video template in a project. When you launch Resolve, you’ll find yourself on the Local tab. This is part of the Project Manager menu. Here, you can choose from an existing project to edit. Or, you can create a new one. 

In this case, go ahead and make a new project. To do that, click New Project in the lower right corner. Give it a name on the popup menu, then click Create.

You’ll now be working in the main editing workspace inside DaVinci Resolve. In the upper left corner, go to File > Project Manager. On the menu, right-click on the thumbnail for your project. From the list of options, opt for Restore Project Archive.

A file browser will open. Navigate to your downloaded DaVinci Resolve lyric video template. Choose it, and click to import it. Your template is now imported and ready to copy to your lyric video project. 

2. Add the Lyric Theme to the Timeline

With the lyric video template imported, you’ll need to copy it to your video project. With the template open, select the entirety of the template from the Master Media Pool bin. 

Then, go to the Edit dropdown menu. From the list of options, choose Copy.

Next, open your lyric video project. Return to the Edit menu, this time choosing Paste. The DaVinci Resolve lyric video template will import. Now, it’s ready to work with!

To add it to your Timeline, open the 02 Final folder in the Master Media Pool bin. Find the Lyric Template graphic and drag it onto your project Timeline. It now overlays your music, and it’s ready to customize.

3. Customize Lyrics

Back in the Media Pool, open the Master / 01 Edit folder. This contains the text overlays that you will change. Each on-screen lyric visual is held in its own folder. These begin with Template 01.

To customize DaVinci Resolve lyric video text, begin by double-clicking Template 01 to open it. Inside, you’ll see editing options. To customize your lyrics, double-click T01 Edit Text. This launches the Text Editor in DaVinci Resolve. To view it, click Inspector in the upper right corner of your screen.

On the Video tab of the Inspector panel, type in your own custom lyrics. Below, you can change key parameters like the font size, style, and more. 

You’ll repeat this step for the remaining lyrics in your video. For each line of the song, open the relevant Template folder in the Master / 01 Edit folder. Then, drop your own text into place. It’s remarkably easy!

4. Make Stylistic Adjustments for Maximum Impact

Optionally, you can make even more changes to your DaVinci Resolve lyric video template. For example, you can easily change the Shape Color, Text Color, and more. Plus, you can rotate the lyrics, move them around the screen, and make other creative adjustments.

Again, customizing a DaVinci Resolve lyric video template is really all about repetition. Each and every style element is contained in the Master / 01 Edit folder. Simply click on the parameter that you want to adjust, and edit it on the Inspector panel. You’ll see your changes come to life in real time!
