In this tutorial, you will learn how to create moon brushes for Photoshop. I will explain everything in so much detail that everyone can create the moon brushes in Photoshop, even those who have just opened Photoshop for the first time.

What You'll Need
To recreate the design above, you will need the following resources:
- Full moon in the sky
- Crescent moon in a black sky
- Mountains in fog at beautiful night. Dreamy landscape
1. How to Create a Full Moon Photoshop Brush
Step 1
In this section, we are going to create a full moon PSD brush. Go to File > Open, choose the first photo from the link, and click Open.
Step 2
Now go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Invert, to create a new invert adjustment layer, and name it Invert Colors.
Step 3
Choose the Elliptical Marquee Tool (M), and make a selection around the moon.
Step 4
Now select the Background layer, go to Edit > Define Brush Preset to define this selection as a brush, and name it Full Moon Brush.
2. How to Apply Moon Brushes for Photoshop
Step 1
In this section, we are going to apply the full moon brush that we have made to a photo. Go to File > Open, choose the third photo from the link, and click Open. You can go to Image > Image Size to reduce the image size if you like.
Step 2
Now go to Layer > New > Layer to create a new layer, and name it Full Moon.
Step 3
Set the foreground color to #ffffff
, choose the Brush Tool (B), pick the Full Moon Brush, and brush where you want to create the moon. Feel free to adjust the brush size as you like.
Step 4
Now Alt-click on the Full Moon layer and drag to duplicate this layer, and position the new layer just above the Background layer. Then, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and set the Radius to 50 px.
Step 5
Change the Opacity of this layer to 50%, and name it Full Moon Glow.
3. How to Create a Crescent Moon Photoshop Brush
Step 1
In this section, we are going to create a crescent moon PSD brush. Go to File > Open, choose the second photo from the link, and click Open.
Step 2
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels to create a new levels adjustment layer, and name it Moon Brightness.
Step 3
Now Double-click on this layer thumbnail and, in the Properties panel, set the Shadow Input Level to 25.
Step 4
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Invert to create a new invert adjustment layer, and name it Invert Colors.
Step 5
Now choose the Lasso Tool (L), and make a selection around the moon.
Step 6
Select the Background layer, go to Edit > Define Brush Preset to define this selection as a brush, and name it Crescent Moon Brush.
4. How to Use Moon Brushes in Photoshop
Step 1
In this section, we are going to use the crescent moon brush that we have made to add the moon to a photo. We can use the same file that we used to apply the full moon brush, so go back to that file and hide the Full Moon and Full Moon Glow layers. Then, select the Background layer, go to Layer > New > Layer to create a new layer, and name it Crescent Moon.
Step 2
Now set the foreground color to #ffffff
, choose the Brush Tool (B), pick the Crescent Moon Brush, and brush where you want to create the moon. Again, feel free to adjust the brush size as you like.
Step 3
Now Alt-click on the Crescent Moon layer, drag to duplicate this layer, and position the new layer just above the Background layer. Then, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur, and set the Radius to 50 px. Change the Opacity of this layer to 50%, and name it Crescent Moon Glow.
