Want to learn how to make circular text in Photoshop? In this tutorial, we'll create text in a circle in Photoshop, quickly and easily. You can use any font you prefer for your Photoshop circle text.
1. How to Make a Circle of Words in Photoshop
Step 1
Let's begin with a New Document in Photoshop; it can be any size of your choice. In this demo, the document is 1200 pixels wide by 900 pixels high. You can create a new document by going to File > New, and then choosing the dimensions of your choice. Click Create to create your new document.
Here's a look at what your workspace should look like, before we begin creating our Photoshop circle text.
Step 2
Before you can explore how to create circular text in Photoshop, we need to start at the beginning: creating the circle itself. Select the Ellipse Tool in the Tools panel, as highlighted below.
Before drawing a circle, look at your Options, at the top of the software. Rather than drawing a Shape, we want to draw a Path—make sure that option is selected, as shown below.
Step 3
Next, it's time to draw. With the Ellipse Tool selected, click and drag to draw a circular shape in your work area. We'll use this to create our text in a circle; Photoshop will use this as our guide.
Tip: hold down Shift while you draw if you'd like to create a perfect circle. Otherwise, you can create an ellipse with any proportions you prefer.
Step 4
Now for the next step in how to make text in a circle in Photoshop: the text! Select the Horizontal Type Tool (or the Type Tool) in the Tools panel, as highlighted below.
Looking at Photoshop, text on a circle isn't one of our text options. Instead, mouse over the circle we just drew. You'll notice that your pointer looks different: this is how to create circular text in Photoshop. That pointer indicates that the text will now travel on a path.
Step 5
Click on the path to begin typing circle text in Photoshop. You'll notice that the text follows the circular path. Simple, right?
Now, you know how to make a circle of words in Photoshop!
Step 6
But here's one more bonus tip. What if you want to know how to make circle text in Photoshop, but you don't necessarily want to know how to make a circle of words in Photoshop... You want the words in the circle.
Thankfully, that's easy too!
If you go back to Step 4, notice what happens when we mouse over the inside of the circle, instead of the perimeter of the circle. The cursor looks different again—this indicates that your text will go inside the circle, and not around it.
Step 7
Just click to start typing! Photoshop will insert some filler text for you, but you can type whatever you prefer in this circular space.
Now You Know How to Make Circle Text in Photoshop
It's simple, right? And you can use these techniques on other shaped paths too, like squares or other polygons! You could use circle text in Photoshop for logo design, patterns, and all sorts of creative ideas. What kind of text on a path would you create?
