Welcome to the Sands of MAUI—newsletter-style issues dedicated to bringing together latest .NET MAUI content relevant to developers.
A particle of sand—tiny and innocuous. But put a lot of sand particles together and we have something big—a force to reckon with. It is the smallest grains of sand that often add up to form massive beaches, dunes and deserts.
Most .NET developers are excited with .NET Multi-platform App UI (.NET MAUI)—the evolution of modern .NET cross-platform developer experience. Going forward, developers will be empowered with .NET MAUI technology stack and tooling to build native cross-platform apps for mobile/desktop from single shared codebase.
While it may take a long flight to reach the sands of MAUI island, developer excitement around .NET MAUI is quite palpable with all the created content. Like the grains of sand, every piece of news/article/documentation/video/tutorial/livestream contributes towards developer knowledge in .NET MAUI and we grow a community/ecosystem willing to learn & help.
Sands of MAUI is a humble attempt to collect all the .NET MAUI awesomeness in one place. Here's what is noteworthy for the week of April 24, 2023:
Journey to 100!
March 22, 2021. An aging developer had been feeling a little overwhelmed the weekend before. With a long background in cross-platform technologies, he was enticed by the promise of .NET MAUI—a true shared single codebase to serve up native mobile and desktop apps across platforms, while welcoming web technologies.
However, even in the early days, all the excitement meant a ton of .NET MAUI developer content—from folks at Microsoft and the developer community. There had to be way to provide contextual commentary and document all the .NET MAUI content—sharing is caring for the developers.
Thus, Sands of MAUI began—short newsletter-style issues published every Monday. The goal was to showcase and archive all the wonderful .NET MAUI content created in a variety of formats and to keep the developer community engaged.
.NET MAUI has had quite the journey—it arrived with .NET 6, grew up with .NET 7 and is ready to conquer the world with .NET 8. Sands of MAUI is proud to have reached the 100th issue milestone—the evolution of cross-platform development with .NET is only getting started.
Maddy Montaquilla | PM .NET MAUI: "I’ve loved reading Sands of MAUI and seeing all the amazing content. We’ve come a long way since the first edition—here’s to 100 more!"

Work days get busy and developers procrastinate. Most Sands of MAUI issues are written in raw Markdown format late into Friday/Saturday nights—from the comfort of a La-Z-Boy recliner and on a tiny MacBook Air. However, there are some key folks who scramble unselfishly every week to bring the Sands of MAUI issues to publication and more—they deserve a hat tip
Mandy Mowers (rhymes with Powers) is the Acquisitions Editor for Progress Digital Experience, which means she gets to work with writers and developers from around the world to provide resources for readers of the Telerik/Progress blogs.
Reading, writing and editing are some of her passions. Some of her favorite ways to spend time are playing with her dog and playing video games, though she hasn't figured out how to do both at once.
Jessica Kent is a writer and editor based in Boston. As a content specialist, she has the opportunity to write about the exciting things happening at Progress, as well as the amazing people behind it all. When she’s not working, you can find her reading, going for a run or attempting to learn the guitar
Sindi Vaskova is a social media specialist @ Progress Software—the real human behind Telerik/Kendo/Fiddler social presences. The earth may stop rotating, but Sindi would not forget sharing the Sands of MAUI issues through formal channels.
Dive Instructor
Many can show bravado on the beach—a good tropical shirt does half the work. The real heroes, however, know how to go deep in the water consistently and share the passion by teaching others. .NET MAUI enjoys a vibrant developer community with so many folks sharing their knowledge and inspiring fellow developers with tools/articles/videos/books/webcasts and more.
This is one who stands above the crowd, though. With high quality video content, tons of work towards the .NET MAUI Community Toolkit and unmatched consistency week after week, the sky is the limit when you are passionate about making developers successful.
Through the last 100 issues of Sands of MAUI, content from one person has been showcased more than anybody else—take a bow, Gerald Versluis, the reigning champion amongst .NET MAUI content creators.
Island Time
Island mindset demands us to be chill—to do what is right at our own pace. Wouldn't it be nice if Sands of MAUI issues were delivered to your fingertips each week? Wouldn't it be nice to get notified of new issues each Monday and then have the entire collection of all past issues to peruse at your convenience?
Yep—the Sands of MAUI app will do all that. It is, of course, written with .NET MAUI and in final stages of development—soon to be available in iOS, Android, Windows and macOS app stores.
Oh, and want to learn some .NET MAUI development in a relaxed mode? Come hang at the Chilling in MAUI online workshop coming up this week—we'll build a some things together from scratch and learn some developer tricks.
Beach Life
The goal of Sands of MAUI is to collect and archive all the developer knowledge around .NET MAUI development—showcase awesome content and keep the developer community engaged. Thanks for coming along for the ride—please feel free to enter a raffle (Secret Word—"Beach") to win an Amazon gift card as a small token of our appreciation. Upwards and onwards—looking forward to the next 100 issues of Sands of MAUI.
That's it for now.
We'll see you next week with more awesome content relevant to .NET MAUI.
Cheers, developers
