The <body>
element in HTML is used to define the main content of an HTML document. A webpage’s visible content is typically contained within the <body>
element.
The <body>
element can be styled using CSS to change the appearance of the content contained within it. This is a great way to do a blanket reset or foundational styling of a web page.
Syntax
The <body>
element typically follows the <head>
element. They are “siblings”, and the two principal child elements of the <html>
element.
Here’s the typical syntax:
1 |
<!DOCTYPE html>
|
2 |
<html>
|
3 |
<head>
|
4 |
<title>Page Title</title> |
5 |
</head>
|
6 |
<body>
|
7 |
<!-- Visible content goes here -->
|
8 |
</body>
|
9 |
</html>
|
Example
Here’s an example of a simple HTML document that uses the <body>
element to define the main content of the page:
1 |
<!DOCTYPE html>
|
2 |
<html>
|
3 |
|
4 |
<head>
|
5 |
<title>My Page</title> |
6 |
</head>
|
7 |
|
8 |
<body>
|
9 |
<header>
|
10 |
<h1>Welcome to My Page</h1> |
11 |
<nav>
|
12 |
<ul>
|
13 |
<li>
|
14 |
<a href="#">Home</a> |
15 |
</li>
|
16 |
<li>
|
17 |
<a href="#">About Us</a> |
18 |
</li>
|
19 |
<li>

20 |
<a href="#">Contact</a> |
