You’ve been asked to produce an ultra high-definition video. Not just any app can do this. As a DaVinci Resolve user, can you export in ultra HD?
Absolutely! With ease, you can export incredibly high-definition video, up to and including 8K. That’s the focus of this tutorial. You’ll learn how to export ultra high-definition videos in moments.
Why Produce Ultra High-Definition Videos in DaVinci Resolve?
So, why is it useful to produce ultra high-definition videos in Resolve? Why is ultra HD useful? After all, most of us are used to 1080p resolution on our everyday screens. What are the benefits of going beyond this to a higher resolution?
Consider this:
- You’ll be prepared for the big screen. On giant displays, ultra HD is a must. By exporting using these settings, your videos will look sharp and crisp on even the largest screens.
- You’ll future-proof your projects. A decade ago, 1080p was the wave of the future. Now, even 4K is yesterday’s news. By choosing ultra HD settings, you’ll ensure your videos look their best for years to come.
- Your videos will stand out. Not everyone is exporting with ultra HD. When you do, you’ll stand out. Thanks to the power of DaVinci Resolve, you can produce startlingly bold HD videos effortlessly.
As you can see, the benefits of using ultra HD exporting in DaVinci Resolve are many!
In the free version of DaVinci Resolve, you can easily export at resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD. If you’re familiar with 4K resolution, that’s what 3840 x 2160 really means.
With the paid Resolve Studio upgrade, exports up to 32K are possible. We’ll demonstrate using Resolve Studio’s 8K settings. No matter which app you choose, the workflow steps are identical. You’ll just find more options in the paid version.
How to Export Ultra HD Videos in DaVinci Resolve (Step by Step)
Let’s learn how to export ultra HD videos from DaVinci Resolve! It’s an easy process. The initial steps are quick. Depending on your computer hardware and system settings, the export and rendering times may vary.
As we work, you’ll see a stock video clip in use. It’s sourced from Envato Elements. Click here to download it, if you’d like to follow along!
1. Launch the Deliver Panel
Let’s go! You’re working in DaVinci Resolve. You’ve created an amazing video with plenty of cool effects added. Now, you are ready to export it in Ultra HD.
Most edits in DaVinci Resolve are handled on the Cut and Edit panels. These are two of the primary tabs in Resolve. They contain the style effects and edits that you use every day.
Exporting in DaVinci Resolve is handled on the Deliver panel. When you’re working in Resolve, look down to the bottom of your screen. You’ll see a toolbar with several menus: Media, Cut, Edit, and more.
On the far right side of the toolbar, find the rocket ship icon. This is the Deliver panel - and it controls exporting in DaVinci Resolve. To export in ultra HD, click Deliver to open it up.
2. Specify Ultra HD Export Settings
You now have the Deliver panel open in DaVinci Resolve. Here, you’ll control the export settings that render your finished videos. Look over on the left side of your screen, in the Render Settings group.
At the top, you’ll see presets listed. They’re labeled H.264 Master, HyperDeck, and so on. For best results, choose the first option in the list: Custom Export. This gives you maximum creative control.
The magic happens in the Resolution group on the Custom Export tab. By default, you’ll see that Resolve is set to 1920 x 1080p resolution. This is quite sharp - but it’s not ultra HD. To choose ultra HD, click into the Resolution dropdown.
There, on the Resolution options, you’ll see an array of choices. Scroll down until you see Ultra HD options. Here, let’s export in 8K resolution. Click on 7680 x 4320 8K Ultra HD to select it from the list.
Below, you can make additional settings changes to amplify your outputs. But with the Resolution dropdown, you’ve made the key decision. Your video will be exported in 8K ultra HD to share with the world!
3. Package and Render Finished Projects in Ultra HD
Once you’ve chosen ultra HD export settings, it’s time to export the finished video. Your journey starts at the bottom of the Custom Export panel. You’ll see a button labeled Add to Render Queue.
Click Add to Render Queue. Resolve will display a popup menu. Here, you can name your video and choose where to save it on your computer. Once you make these selections, you’ll see the video on the Render Queue panel on the right side of Resolve.
Finally, at the bottom of the Render Queue sidebar, click Render All. DaVinci Resolve will get to work exporting your ultra HD video. Again - depending on the project length and your computer, this may take some time.
When it finishes rendering, you’re all set! In moments, you’ve exported ultra HD videos in DaVinci Resolve.
