It's been about 20 days, and I've been very busy with my college assignments. But on the side, I managed to finish the basics of web development and tried to get back into coding by creating a few small projects. However, I encountered a significant challenge: imposter syndrome. I kept comparing myself to many younger developers who are excelling in the field, securing jobs at multinational corporations, landing remote positions, or even starting their own SaaS businesses. Moreover, I've come across numerous YouTube videos suggesting that the MERN Stack and web development, in general, are becoming saturated fields, and all the rapid advancements in AI left me in dilemma of whether to keep doing web dev or should I start doing something else.
So the question is how did I overcome the imposter syndrome:
- Acknowledged dealing with imposter syndrome, recognizing it's normal for beginner developers.
- Realized that more advanced individuals have years of experience, regardless of their age.
- Understood that those who started earlier are naturally going to be better.
- Took inspiration from more advanced developers to create similar or even better products.
- Emphasized the importance of continuing to move forward and focusing on personal strengths.
- Set realistic goals to avoid the trap of trying to learn too many languages, technologies, or frameworks.
- Adopted the "T-shaped" approach: becoming an expert in one skill, then learning others.
- Documented the journey to track progress and stay motivated.
But now I'm back on track to keep continuing my web dev journey and I have and project idea which will help me learn every aspect of web dev. This project will cover everything from front end to backend, databases, APIs, Cloud services, WebSockets, and even a bit of AI integration. To build this project I need to learn all the required skills and tools which will take time, because I will be building this from scratch without using any tutorial its not just another clone, but something new. And I plan to create a few smaller projects to learn all the essential skills and tools required.
I will be sharing everything I learn and create on this blog, tools resources what I'm building, my code its bugs everything, and I try my best to inspire others. My goal is to document everything I learn.
