It’s effortless and simple: just type in a script for your voiceover. In moments, CapCut will generate a professional narration using an AI-generated voice of your choice.
Creating a voiceover manually takes time and skill, and if you don’t have access to voice actors or a pro recording setup, this can be very daunting. CapCut's text-to-audio feature helps you get compelling, engaging narration without breaking the bank. Let's learn how to use it.
Why use text to audio in CapCut?
CapCut’s text-to-audio tool is fast and easy to use. It lets you create studio-quality narrations for your video right from your phone. But what are the other advantages? Why should you use CapCut to produce voiceovers using text to audio?

- CapCut is intuitive and easy to use. With mobile editing and an easy-to-use interface, CapCut is a top tool for voiceover narration. Unlike many video-editing apps, it’s designed to be user-friendly. In other words, you don’t need to be an expert to make it work. You can produce your own audio voiceovers in seconds with ease.
- You’ll save time and money. Hiring a professional voiceover artist or narrator can get costly. It also takes time: you have to engage a pro, deliver your text, and wait for a recording to be delivered. With CapCut, you can have it done as fast as it takes to read your script. Text to audio saves you precious time and a considerable sum of money. After all, it’s free.
- Your videos will become more professional. Countless videos benefit from a professional narrated voiceover. They make any production seem expertly created and studio-crafted.
- You can redo voiceovers on the fly. If you record a narration track, what happens if you want to change something later? Your narrator has to return to their studio and re-record. With text to audio in CapCut, all you have to do is type in some new text. It allows endless retakes, completely free of charge. Plus, there’s no lead time. You can get new audio virtually endlessly.
As you can see, using text-to-audio tools in CapCut is a great way to make your next voiceover. Now, let’s dial in and learn exactly how to do it, step by step.
How to use text to audio in CapCut
CapCut is multi-platform. That means you can use it on whatever device you prefer for video editing. In this tutorial guide, I’ll demonstrate text to audio using an Apple iPhone on iOS 17. If you’re an Android user, you can jump over to the Google Play Store and download CapCut from there. And if you prefer desktop editing on your Mac or Windows PC, CapCut has apps for both of those.
Text to audio is a powerful voiceover tool. As we work, you’ll see a video clip in the background of our CapCut project. It’s stock footage sourced from Envato, and you can download the clip if you want to follow along.
1. Launch the Audio panel in a video project
In CapCut, you’ll be working in what are called projects. A project is simply the grouping of all the multimedia files and content that you’re adding to your work. In a project, you’ll find video clips, audio, effects, and more. To add your own text-to-audio narration in CapCut, begin by opening a project.
With a project open, take a look at your screen. Opening a project launches CapCut’s main Edit view by default. It’s here that you’ll make edits and add effects, including text to audio.
At the top of your screen, you’ll see a video preview. Here is where visual edits will be shown in real time. Below the preview is the Timeline, which controls how clips are arranged and sequenced in CapCut. You can use the Timeline to adjust when videos and audio start and stop.
Below the Timeline is the toolbar menu. CapCut’s toolbar is the one stop you’ll make to create effects, edits, and more. Included on the toolbar is CapCut’s Audio panel. There you will find the Text to Audio tools that we’ll use to create an engaging narration on the fly.
On the toolbar, find the Audio button. It’s second from the left on the listed options. Tap Audio, and now you are ready to start creating a narration for your CapCut video.
2. Type or paste voiceover text for narration
With the Audio panel open, notice that the toolbar options have transformed. You’ll now see the audio options available for your CapCut video. From left to right, the options are Sounds, Extract, Voiceover, and so on.
Scroll to the right with your finger, and you’ll find the Text to audio button. Tap it, and the smart voiceover creation panel will launch. At the top, you can input text. Whatever is typed in here will become your narration.
Here, you have two options. Look at the Enter text panel. You’ll see an open text box where you can add text. The first choice is to tap in the text field. Then, you can type in custom narration text. It can say whatever you want! If you’re narrating a longer video, you may want to repeat the process a few times.
If you need to build in periods of silence, simply have multiple audio tracks recorded. You can place and sequence them into the right positions on your video—more on that later.
Already have text that you want to transform into a video narration? Browse to it on your device, copy it, and return to the text field. You can paste a script right into your video. Keep in mind: CapCut currently has a 3,000 character limit. But as I mentioned, you can always record multiple voiceovers in sections. Your creativity is never held back.
3. Choose a voice to narrate
Once you’ve added your script, it’s time to choose a voice. Many editing apps that offer AI text-to-speech severely limit your options. You may be forced to choose from only one or two voices, and all too often, they’ll sound robotic and artificial. Not so with CapCut. Here, you’ll find a variety of natural-sounding voice options to choose from. You can choose from different accents and so much more.
Below the text field on the Text to audio panel, find the Selected voice group. This is where you can choose which voice you’d like to have narrating your video. The initial few options are all labeled Pro. This means that they’re premium voices that require CapCut’s premium tier. You can still apply them for free—in other words, you can preview how your audio sounds. You only have to purchase the Pro version if you want to export the video.
Don’t want to go Pro? No problem—CapCut offers a wide variety of completely free text-to-audio voices. To find them, tap More voices. You’ll see the Select voice panel launch. Voices here are grouped in categories. By default, you’ll be on the Trending panel.
Beyond that, you can browse options for English and Spanish narration. You can opt for a male or female narrator. And you can even add fun styles based on famous cartoon and movie characters.
Once you've found a voice that you want to use, tap the thumbnail for it on the Select voice panel. Next, you can choose the voiceover speed. Tap the thumbnail a second time to see this in action. By default, CapCut text-to-audio speed is 1x: the natural pace of human speech. But you can choose to accelerate or slow the narration. Simply pull the Adjust > Speed slider left or right.
Made your selections? Tap the Checkmark icon, and you’re ready to have your custom voiceover created. Tap Next, and CapCut will start creating your voiceover. This may take a few moments, depending on the length of your narration track.
4. Place the voiceover on your video
When your CapCut audio is created, you’ll find yourself back on the main Edit panel. Look once again at the Timeline, found right below your previewed video project. You’ll see an audio track in place: this is your newly created AI voiceover! CapCut will place it on your Timeline.
However, you’re not stuck with the audio playing where it lands by default. With CapCut’s tactile editing tools, it’s easy to move the narration audio to any point in the video that you want.
To do that, press and hold the orange audio track with your finger. This activates it and makes it moveable. Then, simply drag left or right. This way, you can precisely control when your narration starts. It’s the exact creative control that you need for expert voiceovers in CapCut.
Need to make changes? CapCut offers audio editing tools to enhance your narration. To access them, tap once on the audio track. You’ll see the toolbar options transform once again. For example, you can now tap Volume and adjust the audio levels of your recording.
You can also adjust the Speed from here, if you skipped that step earlier. And you can apply new styles and even delete audio tracks if you don’t want to use them at the end of your editing process.
