Hello! đź‘‹

My name is Vinh Nhan, and I'm currently in my final semester of the Computer Programming and Analysis program at Seneca Polytechnic. As I embark on this last stretch of my academic journey, I am particularly excited about taking the Open Source Development (OSD600) course, taught by professor David Humphrey. I chose this course because I’m eager to contribute my knowledge and skills to open-source projects that I’m genuinely passionate about. It also feels like the perfect way to give back to a community that has given so much to developers worldwide.

One of the many things I love about open source is its inclusivity—whether you're an experienced developer or just starting, there's always an opportunity to contribute, learn, and grow. Not only can I share what I know, but I also get the chance to learn from other contributors across the globe.

During this final term, my focus will be on honing my Git skills, an essential tool for any developer. Mastering Git will not only sharpen my workflow but also make it easier for me to transition into the professional world. In addition, I plan to dive into new languages and frameworks, expanding my knowledge as I contribute to different open-source projects. Blogging as part of the course will also help me document my learning journey—a perfect way to track progress and reflect on what I’ve learned along the way.

One project from GitHub Trending that really caught my attention is LibreTranslate. It’s an open-source web app used to translate between languages, similar to Google Translate, but powered by the Agros Translate library. I have a deep passion for learning languages—both spoken and programming languages—so this project feels like the ideal opportunity to merge these interests. In fact, one of my long-term goals is to contribute to the preservation of endangered languages, and working on LibreTranslate seems like the perfect starting point for that.

I’m incredibly excited to contribute, learn, and grow through this course. There’s a lot to gain, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!
