Most of us know by now that cryptocurrency mining and general blockchain activity uses a lot of energy. Globally, Bitcoin itself represents about 0.6% of total energy consumed according to a Cambridge study. When put into this perspective, it seems like less of an emergency. Still, Ark Investing found that Bitcoin uses 10% or less of the energy required to run the traditional banking system. That’s quite a lot for an industry that hopes to compete with the global financial systems.
