Our emotions don't necessarily demand action - facts do.

One of the questions I've had to learn how to ask myself as I've grown into my adult life is whether to Grit It or Quit It.

To keep going or to give in because - logically - its the smart thing to do.

I've never had a problem with working hard, I'd go as far as to say it gives me a weird sort of high. Growing up, grit and willingness to do take the hard route and put in the work that will return the most value was something that came naturally to me.

Knowing when to quit on the other hand, never came naturally. Stubborn, never seemingly content, and extremely motivated are all characteristics that my closest friends and family would use to describe me.

They'd also tell you that once I have my mind locked in on something, good luck - because everything else is a lost cause. Once I'm locked in, that's the direction I'm headed.

This mindset and way of looking at the world have been extremely beneficial to my success professionally - especially externally looking in if you don't know me that well.

I wouldn't be where I'm at without the grit that has always seemed to come naturally to me.

As I get older, I'm noticing more and more often that my challenge isn't "sticking it out" or "putting in the work" but instead coming into myself and understanding that in certain situations the facts are the facts and that the logical decision is to quit.

Quit, even as a word, grinds my gears to no end - but, when I put my personal emotional attachment to the word aside and look at the facts, not quitting the thing I was full-heartedly invested into earlier on due to wanting to hold up this expectation of myself as that dude who just works and works and works, has undoubtedly hurt me more than walking away.

Grit It vs. Quit It - ignore your emotions, and look at the facts - no matter the side you naturally lean towards. If you're full-heartedly invested in making something happen, then don't ask how you feel emotionally - instead, look at the facts. Then, with the facts in hand and your own emotions understood well enough to not fall prey to yourself, then ask yourself whether you should keep going or move on.

Once you understand your own emotions, which way you naturally lean, and the actual facts defining the context of your individual situation - that's when you need to ask yourself honestly.

Should you GRIT IT or QUIT IT?
