Happy New Year! 2021 was a difficult year for everyone around the globe but as a community we’ve managed to stick together and continue to move Angular forward.

Let’s take a quick review of some things that happened in 2021 and take a peek at some things that are on the horizon for Angular in 2022.

Welcome to our new colleagues!

In 20201 we welcomed some fantastic new team members! Welcome to Madleina, Christina, Sarah, Dylann, Amy, Krystian and more!

The team is in a terrific position to continue to build upon the great work that we’ve done in the past and the great work we’re planning to do in the future.

2021 in Review

2021 was a busy year for the team and the community. We completed a whopping 16 projects from the roadmap! Some of those projects include:

  • Improving test times and debugging with automatic test environment tear down
  • Improving debugging with better Angular error messages
  • Authoring new guides on angular.io
  • Updating our e2e testing strategy

Last year with our two major releases (v12, v13) and minor release also landed many new features and improvements:

We also had some awesome feedback from many of you through our RFC process. We gained so much invaluable insight on the work we’re doing and planning (standalone components and IE11 deprecation and removal). Thank you for always using your voices and perspectives to help make Angular better and better.

The Angular Twitter and YouTube communities have grown so much and are filled with dynamic discussions and fantastic content. We learned that you loved our DevTools video on YouTube and that your favorite Twitter conversation was about our v13 release. Thanks for showing up to engage with us on social media. Join us there if you haven’t already — it’s awesome.

And now for the good part

The Angular Roadmap is filled with some goodies that we think you’ll love. Right now we’re working on two very requested initiatives:

In 2022 we’re also planning to release some build-time performance and DX improvements.

We have more items on the roadmap so please continue to stay tuned for a follow up post where we share even more updates.

We have a whole host of new content for YouTube featuring members of the team on the horizon. We’ve been reading your comments and we’re excited to deliver new content to you.

This is only the beginning

Thank you for an incredible 2021 and we look forward to an even better 2022. Be sure to keep a close eye on the blog, our YouTube channel and our Twitter feed to stay up to date with the latest happenings in Angular.

Until the next time friends — go build great apps.
