In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to quickly add good CapCut transitions. These help add a bit of dramatic flair to all of your productions. And it’s a quick and easy process. I’ll walk you through it below, step by step. Let’s get started!
Why use CapCut transitions?
So, why are good CapCut transitions so useful? How do they help your videos look their best? In short, CapCut transitions help videos move from one scene to another. They can take many forms: fades, wipes, dissolves, and more. Think of them as visual segues from clip to clip.
Use good CapCut transitions and you’ll enjoy:
- More attractive styles. Transitions are commonly used in cinematic productions. They help videos have a smoother and seamless feel.
- Clear visual breaks. When used well, transitions signal breaks or changes in the action. They’re a powerful tool to help audiences recognize a shift from one scene to another.
- The ability to hide splices. If you’ve edited multiple clips together, the splices can be choppy and unpleasant to watch. Using transitions, you can hide them with ease.
- Control of pace and timing. The speed of a video helps control the flow of motion. As the creator, you need to set a clear visual pace. Transitions work well for this. For example, you can use a slow fade to build suspense.
As you can see, the benefits of CapCut transitions are many. They’re a powerful edit that you’ll find yourself using every day. Now, let’s walk through adding transitions in CapCut, step by step.
How to quickly add CapCut transitions (step by step)
As I walk through this brief tutorial, you’ll see stock video clips in use. They’re downloaded from Envato Elements, which has a huge library of stock footage. Want to follow along? You can download the clips here and here in moments.
CapCut is available for both mobile devices and desktops. In our example, we’ll use it on Apple iOS 17. Let’s dive in.
1. Select clips to add transitions
The first step to adding CapCut transitions is to choose video clips to edit. In CapCut, videos are edited inside projects. A project contains all the media that you need to produce a finished video. This can include footage, audio, effects, and more.
To learn how to use good CapCut transitions, launch CapCut. On the bottom of your screen, you’ll see a row of menu buttons. These are labeled Edit, Templates, Library, Inbox, and Me. Be sure to select Edit.
On the Edit tab, you’ll see a blue box near the top. It’s labeled New project. This is a button to add your own project, so go ahead and press it. Your Camera Roll will launch. Here, you can choose videos to import into CapCut. Tap to select them, then choose Add.
Just like that, you’ve imported videos into CapCut! Now, we can use them to demonstrate how to add CapCut transitions easily.
2. Open the Transitions menu
With your videos imported, it’s time to add a transition. Remember what transitions do. They create a new animated effect between two video clips.
On the main Edit view, notice the Timeline at the bottom. The Timeline is where CapCut stores and organizes your video contents. Think of it as a control center for timing and sequencing of your CapCut video. You can scroll through the Timeline by moving your finger from side to side.
To add a transition, you’ll want to find the point on the Timeline where two clips merge. Scroll to it. This merge point will be denoted by a white box and vertical line.
The white box is actually a button! It’s used to launch the Transitions menu. Tap it, and watch as the Transitions menu appears at the bottom of your screen.
3. Apply sleek transition effects
With the Transitions menu open, it’s time to explore your options. Notice the category tabs across the top of the menu. By default, you’ll find yourself on the Trending options. These are transition effects that are popular right now. These will vary, so check back often for new designs!
You’ll also see tabs for Pro, Overlay, Movement, Blur, Basic, and more. Each of these is a category of transition styles. Spend some time browsing through each one. Or, if you know the effect you want, type its name into the search box to save a few moments.
Ready to apply a transition? Easy! Simply tap on its thumbnail image. Watch what happens in the video preview above. You’ll see the transition added and previewed in real time! To get a closer look, scroll through your clips frame by frame on the Timeline. When you do, you’ll see your transition in action.
Start using CapCut transitions in your next video!
As you can see, it’s easy to add good CapCut transitions. It’s almost effortless, but it can create a smooth switch. Put simply, transitions make your videos more visually appealing.
Gone are the days of jerky motions and abrupt shifts from one scene to the next. Instead, with transitions, you can add stylish motion that attracts the eye of your audience. Don’t hesitate to use CapCut transitions. Start today!
