The pandemic has put an economic strain on most Americans. Yet, in New York City, artists who rely on in-person events like concerts and gallery showings have been hit hard. The New York State Comptroller reports, “As of December 2020, arts, entertainment and recreation employment declined by 66 percent from one year earlier, the largest decline among the City’s economic sectors.” Due to this economic dive and concern about the economic well-being of NYC artists with disabilities, the New York Foundation for the Arts is offering $1000 grants to NYC creatives with disabilities.
Artists with disabilities will need to show that they have a “current sustained artistic practice in the visual, media, music, performing, or literary arts” through several documents and provide proof that they live in NYC. Hopefully, these grants will help keep NYC artists with disabilities afloat.
