How to Batch Edit in Photoshop
Step 1
If you want to apply the same effect to multiple photos, first you need to have this effect in the form of an action. Learn how to create a Photoshop action in this tutorial:
You can also download an action that's ready to use—for example, this portrait comic art effect action from Envato Elements. That's the one I'm going to use in this tutorial. So in this step, create your action, or download and install one.
Step 2
Create two folders: photos before and photos after. Place your photos in the photos before folder.
Step 3
If you want to save the images automatically, you need to add a Save step to your action. To do this, create a New File (any random one). Create a New Layer. Then go to Window > Actions to open the Actions window, expand your action, and scroll down to the very bottom of the list. Click the dot icon to Begin Recording.
Step 4
Now save your file using the settings you'd like to use for all the images in the batch. Save it to any random temporary location.
Step 5
Close the file. In the prompt that appears, select No (this choice will be saved to the action as well, so you won't have to click it later for each modified file). Then click Stop Recording.
Step 6
Now we're ready for our batch editing! Go to File > Automate > Batch.
- In the Play section, select your action.
- For the Source, set Folder and select the photos before folder.
- For the Destination, set Folder and select the photos after folder.
Then check Override Action "Save As" Command (to make sure the photos will land in the selected destination instead of the temporary one), and click OK.
Now all you need to do is to wait! After Photoshop does its magic, all the edited photos should be found in the photos after folder.
