Here at Freedom Scientific, we have renamed the month of November to Sharkvember, a month-long celebration of accessibility, creativity, and community. Visit the Sharkvember page for a list of events that will take place during the entire month of Sharkvember.
As part of Sharkvember, we are providing JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion keyboard command tips, which we are calling “Sharkvember Shortcuts.” Visit the Sharkvember Shortcuts page each week day for a new tip.
At the end of each week, we will provide a roundup of shortcuts for that week right here on the blog. Here are the Sharkvember Shortcuts for this week.
Sharkvember Keyboard Command of the Day
Nov 11: JAWS Command
List Available Picture Smart AI Commands
Desktop keystroke | Laptop keystroke | Description |
INSERT+SPACEBAR, P, QUESTION MARK | CAPS LOCK+SPACEBAR, P, QUESTION MARK | Lists the available keystrokes in Picture Smart AI. |
Nov 12: ZoomText Command
Launch AppReader
Keystroke | Description |
CAPS LOCK+SPACEBAR, A | LaunchesAppReader, which is a productivity tool that uses ZoomText speech to automatically read documents, web pages, and emails while you visually follow along or relax your eyes and listen. While reading text aloud, a visual highlight also moves along as words are read. |
Nov 13: JAWS Command
Describe an Image in Context with Picture Smart AI
Desktop keystroke | Laptop keystroke | Description |
INSERT+SPACEBAR, P, ENTER | CAPS LOCK+SPACEBAR, P, ENTER | Use this keystroke to describe an image based on your current application or context. For example, describe the screen of a PowerPoint presentation, the image or control in focus on a web page, or a currently selected file in File Explorer. |
Nov 14: Fusion Command
Activate Mouse Mode in Picture Smart AI
Keystroke | Description |
CAPS LOCK+CTRL+P | Use Mouse Mode in Picture Smart AI to select a specific area of a picture for analysis. Picture Smart AI describes only that area instead of describing the entire picture or screen. For a Fusion user, using the mouse to select items on the screen can be faster than using keyboard commands. The mouse also offers greater control when selecting specific parts of a picture. Note: When you finish typing the command, Fusion announces “Picture Smart Mouse Mode.” Next, click and drag the mouse pointer over the item you want to have described. Once processed, the description is displayed and read aloud. |
Nov 15: JAWS Command
Suspend Navigation Quick Keys
Desktop keystroke | Laptop keystroke | Description |
INSERT+SHIFT+Z | CAPS LOCK+SHIFT+Z | Temporarily suspends the use of Navigation Quick Keys when on a web page while still using the Virtual PC Cursor to navigate and read content. This is useful if you need to use keystrokes native to a particular website that conflict with the use of Navigation Quick Keys like H for heading, T for table, etc. Navigation Quick Keys resume when you move focus away from the current browser window, navigate to a new page, or execute the command again. |
